What is Considered a Local Move?
While we keep everything simple and seamless for you, the answer to this question isn’t perfectly straightforward. A local move isn’t necessarily just from one home in Arden to another in Arden. The 48-mile move from West Asheville to Cherokee, for example, is considered “local moving.” But relocating the 4 miles from Tryon to Landrum is not. Why is that?
Bureaucracy is the short answer. Actually, you may be reassured to know that we movers are regulated by state and federal agencies to make sure you and your belongings are protected. Due to that regulation changing hands when we cross state lines, however, an out-of-state move, no matter how short the distance, cannot be local. (Not to worry, though—we do long distance too!) Meanwhile, any move within NC below 50 miles is local.

A Few Quick Tips for Planning Your Local Move
Most of us don’t move very often, so it stands to reason we may not remember every step along the way. Below are a few quick checklist items to make your local move smoother and easier:
- 2 months: Begin to inventory and cull your belongings.
- 1 month: Call local movers for quotes, choose one, book your date. Ask about fees for things like weekend service or stairs.
- 4 weeks: Schedule utilities to begin a day or two before your move-in date.
- 2–3 weeks: If your mover isn’t packing for you, get your packing supplies and start, one room at a time.
- 2 weeks: Change your address with banks, medical providers, your employer, etc.
- 10 days: Do you need childcare or pet care for the day of the move?
- 1 week: Set up mail forwarding with the post office.
- 1 week: Drive through the new neighborhood to check for any road closures or construction.
- 1 week: Call to confirm your reservation with your mover and let them know if you saw any obstructions on your drive-through.
- The big day: Relax your mind and let us handle the rest!
